Abstract
|
|
|
The author has investigated the effects of various organic substances on the death of Klebsiella pneumoniae, type 2, (Kp) by shaking and obtained the following results.
The beef-extract, peptone and egg-albumin protected a little the Kp from shaking and the protecting activity of beef-extract was strongest.
The Kp were not completely protected by glucose, xylose and maltose from shaking.
The Kp protecting activities, from shaking, of the complexes of beef-extract plus glucose and peptone plus glucose were similar to that of beef-extract and peptone alone, respectively.
On shaking the Kp, the death rate of bacteria cultured for 4 hrs at 37°C under aeration was a little higher than that of bacteria cultured overnight, under stationary condition, at 37°C.
